Dave was a real character and could be one of the funniest people I have ever met. He was a great Maths teacher and helped many students achieve excellent grades in A Level and GCSE Maths. He was a very popular though at times unorthodox teacher and a much loved sixth form tutor. Amongst his other loves were Chess and old western movies. He could recount practically all the world chess championship matches of Bobby Fisher and introduced many students to the joys of chess. When I met him recently he spent a lot of the time talking about the best John Wayne films and probably his favourite film Shane. His memory of scenes and quotes was extraordinary. Overall Dave was a legend both in the classroom and in the staffroom. He will be much missed Declan Connolly
